You will need:
A raw potato
a cheese grater – a sturdy one
a cutting board
Step One: Wash the potato in COLD water
Step Two: (Over the cutting board) Run the potato briskly back and forth over the largest grater holes. Then mash the hash with a spatula to drain excess water.
Step Three: Heat oil in pan
Step Four: Place the pile of potato hash in the pan
Step Five: Cook until bottom is browned
Step Six: Flip carefully with spatula and cook until other side is browned.
Step Seven: Serve
